Harrison Bankhead

Harrison Napoleon Bankhead (* 1955 in Waukegan , Illinois ) is an American jazz musician ( bass , cello ).

Life

Bankhead is a long-time member of the AACM and has worked in the Chicago jazz scene a. a. with Muhal Richard Abrams , Fred Anderson , Mwata Bowden , Hamid Drake , Von Freeman , Billy Harper , Oliver Lake , Nicole Mitchell , Roscoe Mitchell , Bill Pierce , Avreeayl Ra , Dewey and Joshua Redman , Malachi Thompson , with The Waukegan Symphony and in the Formation 8 Bold Souls ( Sideshow , 1991). In 2011 he released the album Morning Sun Harvest Moon under his own name , u. a. with Edward Wilkerson and Mars Williams . According to Neil Tesser, Bankhead's bass playing is rooted in Chicago role models such as Milt Hinton , Wilbur Ware and Malachi Favors .
