Tomeka Reid (* 1977 in Washington, DC ) is an American jazz and improvisation musician .

Live and act

Reid studied cello at DePaul University in Chicago and then directed the orchestra at the University of Chicago's Lab School for eight years. In addition, she worked in the city's jazz and improv scene since the 1990s. a. with Dee Alexander , Mike Reed , Nicole Mitchell , Taylor Ho Bynum and the AACM Great Black Music Ensemble , with whom she performed at the Umbria Jazz Festival in 2009 . In 2009 she founded the trio Hear In Now with violinist Mazz Swift and bassist Silvia Bolognesi ; she also worked with Christoph Erb , Keefe Jackson , Jeb Bishop , Fred Lonberg-Holm and Makaya McCraven ( Universal Beings , 2018). Furthermore she leads her own band project, to which Jason Roebke , Tomas Fujiwara and Mary Halvorson belong and with which she u. a. Performed at the 2014 Chicago Jazz Festival . In the field of jazz, she was involved in 33 recording sessions between 1999 and 2017. In 2016 she was nominated for the JJA Awards . She is a member of the Art Ensemble of Chicago jazz formation .
