Nick Liebmann

Nick Liebmann (born December 27, 1950 in Zurich ; † December 28, 2006 in São Paulo ) was a Swiss jazz musician , journalist and social scientist.

Live and act

As a teenager, Liebmann took drum lessons from Alex Kuhn, Stu Martin and others, as well as guitar lessons from Bodo Suss. In addition, he completed a classic percussion training. He first played swing and dixieland before Remo Rau brought him into his formations in 1966 , where he worked as a drummer and played with Jürg Grau , Thomas Moeckel and KT Geier . There was also collaboration with Peter Frei . He also accompanied American guest soloists such as Benny Bailey , Charlie Shavers and Albert Nicholas as part of various rhythm groups . While studying social psychology and musicology in Zurich and New York, he also worked as a studio musician. From 1975 he worked as a professional musician in the trio of Angel Sucheras and Pierre Cavalli as well as in the groups Emphasis (with Cavalli, Renato Anselmi , Fernando Vicencio and Curt Treier ) and Revenge (with Kurt Weil and Ulle Holmquist). He was involved in numerous radio and TV productions, but also played in musicals and crossover productions ( report by Remo Rau). In Jesus Franco's feature film Jack the Ripper (1976) he was also seen as a playing musician. He performed at the Jazz Festival Zurich and the Jazz Festival Montreux , among others .

Liebmann has been a full-time market researcher and journalist since the mid-1980s ; in particular, he was a music critic for the Neue Zürcher Zeitung . He also wrote many specialist articles on jazz and culture as well as the liner notes for The Complete Miles Davis at Montreux 1973-1991 . Since it was founded, he has been a member of the Rex Rhythm Section (with Heiri Känzig or Kalli Gerhards and Thomas Moeckel ), which has performed with soloists such as Franco Ambrosetti , Andy Scherrer , Roman Schwaller and Sandy Patton . He was also a member of the Klaus Koenig Trio and the group Magog Zwei .
