Sandy Patton

Sandy Patton (born March 8, 1948 in Inkster (Michigan) ) is an American modern jazz singer .

Patton comes from a musical family and started singing as a little girl. One of her cousins ​​was a member of the Marvelettes . During her studies at Howard University she began working professionally as a musician, initially with Face of the Earth , with whom she also recorded. Then she founded her own band with Spirit , and then became a member of Lionel Hampton's band for three years . She also worked with Dizzy Gillespie , Paquito D'Rivera , Cab Calloway , Joe Haider , Jimmy Woode , Al Gray , Junior Mance , Benny Bailey and Ray Brown, among others . She is also involved in recordings by Grand Mother's Funck , Rainer Glas , Peter Schärli and Martin Schrack and also sings symphonic gospel in a duet with Esther Feingold .

From 1995 to 2013 she was professor for jazz singing at the Swiss Jazz School and the Bern University of the Arts .
