Stefano Di Battista (* 14. February 1969 in Rome ) is an Italian jazz - saxophonist ( alto and soprano ).

biography

Di Battista started playing the saxophone at the age of 13. He came to jazz through the music of Art Pepper , where he was promoted by Massimo Urbani and Jean-Pierre Como . At an invitation from Como, Di Battista came to Paris , where he came into contact with the French jazz scene. Laurent Cugny brought Di Battista to the Orchester National de Jazz as a soloist . This was followed by an engagement with Michel Petrucciani . In 1997 his debut album appeared as the band leader Volare (with Flavio Boltro (trumpet)), which was nominated for the Victories de la Musique, Choc de l'Année Jazzman award. The next album A Prima Vista was released in 1998 on Blue Note Records . After joint recordings for the album Stefano Di Battista , a. a. with the pianist Jacky Terrasson , the jazz legend Elvin Jones engaged Di Battista in 2000 for a tour with his band Jazz Machine . For the fourth album Round About Roma , reminiscent of a soundtrack , Di Battista worked with the American arranger Vince Mendoza . Musicians like Flavio Boltro, Kenny Barron , Rosario Bonaccorso , Fabrizio Bosso , Baptiste Trotignon and Eric Harland have accompanied his last projects .
