Julien Lourau (born March 2, 1970 in Paris ) is a French jazz saxophonist (tenor, but also soprano, alto, baritone).

Live and act

The son of the sociologist René Lourau began at the Free Jazz guitarist group "Trash Corporation" Noël Akchoté and pianist Bojan Z . In 1992 he won the prize as a soloist in the Concours de La Défense and founded the funk jazz band Julien Lourau Groove Gang (album of the same name on Label Bleu 1995) with trombonist Daniel Casimir , trumpeter Nicolas Genest, drummer Daniel Garcia-Bruno and the bassist Jules Bikoko Bi N 'Jami.

After the second album "City Boom Boom" (on WEA, with singer Laïka Fatien , flautist Malik Mezzadri , DJ Shalom and Minino Garay ) he broke up the group. In 1999 he turned to electronic music and released his album "Gambit" (2000), with only Garay and Mezzadri playing from the old "Groove Gang". He also founded "Olympic Gramofon" (album of the same name in 1996 by Pee-Wee), accompanied Abbey Lincoln and Marc Ducret and played in the septet of Henri Texier . In 2002 he returned to traditional acoustic jazz with “The Rise” (Label Bleu). He often plays in a duo with Bojan Z and revived his Groove Retrievers in 2017 . In 2019 he was a member of the Stéphane Kerecki Quartet, in 2020 he will also play in Anne Paceos Circles .

In 1999 he received the Les Victoires du Jazz prize as a new talent .
