Pierre Christophe (born June 29, 1969 in Bourges ) is a French jazz pianist and composer .

Christophe studied classical piano at the Conservatory in Marseille (with Guy Longnon ), where he received a gold medal in 1991, and jazz piano at the CIM ( Center d'informations musicales ) in Paris with Michel Graillier . From 1991 to 1994 he studied at the Manhattan School of Music . He attended Jaki Byard's course there for four years and later (after Byard's death in 1999) dedicated three of his own albums to this with the trio Byard by Us , with Raphaël Dever (bass) and Mourad Benhammou (drums). In 2001 he also recorded a Jaki Byard album with the Benjamin Herman Trio. He accompanied traveling American jazz musicians such as Frank Morgan , Pete Christlieb , James Spaulding and Lew Tabackin . In 2008 he founded his own quartet with saxophonist Olivier Zanot .

In 2007 he received the Prix ​​Django Reinhardt and in 2005 he won Jazz à Juan in the New Discovery Piano category. In 2004 he was nominated as a young talent for the Django d'Or .

As an accompanying musician, he has recorded with Gérard Badini's big band ( Scriabin 's Groove , Super Bad Trax, 2005), with James Spaulding and cellist Vincent Courtois, among others .
