Gérard Badini (born April 16, 1931 in Paris ) is a French jazz musician ( tenor saxophone , clarinet , piano ), band leader and composer .

Live and act

Badini began his career as a clarinetist in Michel Attenoux's orchestra in Monte Carlo in 1952 and toured Europe with Sidney Bechet in 1954 . In 1955 he formed a trio with Claude Bolling . After 1958 he began to occupy himself more with the tenor saxophone and worked primarily in the orchestra of Claude Bolling, with Jack Diéval and as a studio musician. In 1970 he founded the formation Les Swingers , with which he also toured Africa, and in 1973 Swing Machine . In 1975 he went on a tour to the USA, in which Sam Woodyard also took part. The album Swing Machine was created with him . In 1976 he worked with Sonny Payne . Gérard Badini returned to New York in 1977 . During this time he made records with Helen Humes , with whom he also toured Europe in 1974, Roy Eldridge , Clark Terry and others and played with his own quartet.

After returning to France in 1979, he presented a new edition of the Swing Machine with pianist Alain Jean-Marie , bassist Michel Gaudry and drummer Philippe Combelle . Then he toured West Africa. In 1984 the formation Super Swing Machine was born , a big band with eighteen musicians, with whom he made guest appearances and TV appearances at numerous European jazz festivals, such as in Montreux and Nice.

In 1992 Gérard Badini received the Grand Prix du Jazz of the SACEM and in 1993 the Prix ​​Boris Vian of the Académie du Jazz .

In 2006 his composition Scriabin's Groove , based on six piano pieces by Alexander Scriabin, was performed. The album was produced by his son Jérôme Badini .
