Alain Jean-Marie (* 1945 in Pointe-à-Pitre , Guadeloupe) is a French jazz - pianist .

Jean-Marie taught himself to play the piano from the age of eight self-taught at. He played in dance orchestras in Guadeloupe (especially that of Robert Mavounzy ), lived in Canada from 1967 to 1970 and then in the Antilles . He made his first recordings in 1969 (only released in 1997 as Piano Biguines ). At the same time he played regularly in a trio with Winston Berkley and Jean Claude Montredon. In 1973 he moved to Paris , where he quickly achieved his breakthrough a. a. as a companion to traveling jazz musicians such as Chet Baker , Sonny Stitt , Art Farmer , Johnny Griffin , Lee Konitz , Max Roach . Jean-Marie also recorded a lot with musicians from Guadeloupe such as guitarist André Condouant ( Clean & Class 1997), a group of musicians from Guadeloupe under trumpeter Franck Nicolas ( Jazz Ka Philosophy ) and saxophonist Jocelyn Ménard ( Men Art Works ) and performed at festivals in the Antilles (e.g. in his hometown).
