Sara Lazarus

Sara Lazarus (born April 1, 1962 in Wilmington ) is an American jazz singer who is part of the French jazz scene.

Live and act

Lazarus received classical piano lessons from the age of eight. At the age of twelve she began to play the tenor saxophone, which she also played in the school band. At the age of 16 she became a member of the American Youth Jazz Band , with whom she toured Europe in 1980 and performed at the Montreux Jazz Festival . She studied English literature at Harvard University until 1984, but also played the saxophone and sang in bands. Illinois Jacquet , hearing her, advised her to focus on a career as a musician. After graduating, she settled in France, where she was part of the Jacquet band for a while. She founded her own combo, but also worked with Franck Amsallem , Riccardo Del Fra , Manuel Rocheman and Jacky Terrasson . First she worked in jazz clubs , then also at festivals such as Jazz in Marciac , Crest Jazz Vocal or the JVC Jazz Festival Paris .

Patrice Caratini brought her to his jazz ensemble in 2000 and recorded the album Anything Goes with her , which presented the songs of Cole Porter . In 2005 she presented her first album under her own name. Her band included musicians like Alain Jean-Marie , Dominique Lemerle , Gilles Naturel , Steve Williams and Andrea Michelutti . Songs of her have appeared on numerous compilations.

Lazarus is married to the saxophonist Eric Breton, with whom she has sons.
