Gilles Naturel

Gilles Naturel (* 1960 in Paris ) is a French jazz musician ( double bass , composition ).

Naturel, who comes from a family of musicians and has learned numerous instruments since his early childhood, completed a biology degree by 1982 . He has been one of the most sought-after French jazz bassists since the 1980s. He played u. a. with Ray Bryant , Art Farmer , Johnny Griffin , Didier Lockwood , André Ceccarelli , Alain Jean-Marie , Jean-Loup Longnon , Peter Gritz , Franck Avitabile , the singers Jeanne Lee and Sara Lazarus and the vocal jazz group "Les Voice Messengers" ( "Un peu de ménage" 1997). In 1988 he recorded an album under his own name "Naturel" (JMS) (with his own compositions) with tenor saxophonists Lionel Belmondo and Guillaume Naturel , Stéphane Belmondo , Jacky Terrasson , Laurent de Wilde and Simon Goubert . Naturel also leads its own groups. In 2007 his album "Belleville" ( Cristal Records ) was released with his quintet, tenor saxophonists Rick Margitza and Lenny Popkin , pianist Alain-Jean Marie and drummer Philippe Soirat . It is named after his residential area in Paris. In 2011 and 2014, two albums followed with his sextet Contrapuntic Jazz Band . He also worked in a trio with Luigi Grasso and accompanied Benny Golson at the North Sea Jazz Festival 2014 .
