Simon Goubert (* 1960 in Rennes ) is a French jazz drummer, pianist, arranger and composer.

Goubert first learned the piano but switched to drums after hearing Kenny Clarke in his hometown in 1970. He studied percussion at the Rennes Conservatory and from 1976 at the Versailles Conservatory with Silvio Gualda. He had his first engagement at the ORTF's Ensemble Polyphonique under Charles Ravier. He also played in jazz clubs such as the "Riverbop", where he made the acquaintance of Aldo Romano , Bernard Lubat and Christian Vander . In 1981 he founded his first band (with Dominique Lemerle and Éric Barret ), in 1982 the group "Spiral" with the saxophonist Arrigo Lorenzi and the pianist Jean-Claude Lubin . From 1982 to 1987 he also played the piano in Christian Vander's group "Offering", with whom he also played in the group "Voix de Magma" (or " Magma " in the 1990s) and in the septet "Welcome" from 1994 to 1997 ("Bienvenue" 1996). From 1987 to 1997 he played in a trio with Michel Graillier and Alby Cullaz (albums "It was a very good night", "Sweet smile").

In 1991 his first album was released under his own name "Ha-ti" (with Steve Grossman , among others ), followed by "Couleurs de peaux" in 1993 with the brothers Belmondo, Graillier, Romano, Vander and Emmanuel Borghi (here he plays the piano as well as drums) . In 1998 his album "Les phares des Pierres Noires" (Seventh Records) was released with saxophonist David Sauzay .

From 1999 to 2001 he played in the trio "BFG" with Emmanuel Bex and Glenn Ferris . He also played in the quintet “Pentacle” by pianist Sophia Domancich (album of the same name in 2003, “Triana Moods” in 2007, “En hiver comme au printemps” 2017). He has also played with Domancich since 2000 in his current (2007) quartet “Desormaisé” (with Boris Blanchet, Michel Zenino, double album of the same name in 2001) and in the “Invitation” quartet with guitarist Eric Daniel and bassist Jean-Philippe Viret . Since 2004 he has also played with Domancich in the group "Soft Bound" with ex- Soft-Machine member Hugh Hopper and Simon Picard. He also regularly plays in a duo with Sophia Domancich ("You Don't Know What Love Is", Cristal Records ). He recorded the album "African Jazz Roots" (Harmonia Mundi, 2011) with the Senegalese kora virtuoso Ablaye Cissoko and Jean-Jacques Avenel .

He also took with Babik Reinhardt , Didier Levallet (under whose direction he with the de Orchester National Jazz worked, "Deep feelings" 2000), Riccardo Del Fra , René Urtreger , the Belmondo brothers, Gilles Naturel , Jacques Vidal and Manuel Rocheman on .

In 1996 he received the Prix ​​Django Reinhardt (as the first drummer) .
