Frédéric Sylvestre

Frédéric Sylvestre (born June 3, 1953 in Angoulême ; † August 27, 2014 in Paris ) was a French jazz guitarist who also worked as a composer and arranger .

Live and act

From 1974 to 1979, Sylvestre was a member of Jean-Pierre Debarbat's Dolphin Orchestra and Claude Cagnasso's Big Band . He also worked as an accompanist for soloists such as Chris Wood , Ted Curson and Jean Claude Fohrenbach . In 1979 he founded a trio that included Jacques Vidal . He has performed in concerts with Pepper Adams , the Swing String System by Didier Levallet , Novos Tempos by José Boto , Tânia Maria , Christian Escoudé , Aldo Romano and others and was a member of the big bands of Martial Solal and Gérard Marais .

From 1980 to 1984 Sylvestre worked in various formations with Eddy Louiss . He also played with the group Guitars Impulsions of Sacha Distel for which he also wrote.

He then belonged to the Trio Gitan and the octet Strings Plus by Christian Escoudé, played regularly with the quartet of Richard Galliano and gave concerts with Marcel Azzola , Lina Bossatti and the quintet of Jacques Vidal.

Sylvestre taught at the Erik Satie Conservatory in Bagnolet . He died after a long illness in August 2014 at the age of 61. His grave is in the Père-Lachaise cemetery .
