Johannes Schaedlich (born May 5, 1957 in Bad Sachsa , Lower Saxony ) is a German jazz bassist and composer.

Career

Schaedlich studied orchestral music in Karlsruhe and Mannheim. Then I went on to study jazz at the Hamburg University of Music. The beginnings of his musical career go back to violin lessons as a child at the age of seven; as a teenager (since 1972) he played (initially autodidactically) the electric bass in rock, soul and fusion bands. While still studying classical music at the beginning of the 1980s, he began to attract attention as a jazz double bass player; Since then he has been involved in various Latin and soul groups as an electric bass player.

Act

He went on three tours with Lee Konitz and was involved in a production of the hr big band . He also worked with many well-known musicians such as Enrico Pieranunzi , Adam Nussbaum , Tony Lakatos , Keith Copeland , Pony Poindexter and many others.Schaedlich can also be heard on various recordings - including Lee Konitz, Hal Galper , Janusz Stefański , Bobby Shew , Freddy Santiago, Wolfgang Lauth , Doug Raney , Keith Copeland, Anke Helfrich and Nicole Metzger . Festival appearances have taken him to San Sebastian, Lucerne, Vienna, Heidelberg, Leverkusen, Vannes (France), Mannheim, St. Ingbert and many more. He has been touring Europe, the USA, Russia, Kyrgyzstan and Vietnam. In 2003 he toured eight countries in West Africa (from Senegal to Cameroon) on behalf of the Goethe Institute. Under the name Johannes Schaedlich REAL JAZZ , he leads several ensemble projects, including a trio formation with Bob Degen (piano) and Jens Biehl (drums).

Teaching and awards

In 1987 Schaedlich and his ensemble were recognized as the best foreign band in the young talent competition of the “JAZZALDIA” festival in San Sebastian (Spain). He received the advancement award of the International Jazz Workshop Trier and the 1st prize of the Jazz Soloists Competition Rhineland-Palatinate.

Since 1995 he has been a temporary lecturer in the jazz department of the Mannheim / Heidelberg University of Music for double bass and electric bass. He is also a juror at jazz competitions in the states of Rhineland / Palatinate and Hesse.

Schaedlich currently lives in Frankenthal (Palatinate) .
