Jens Bunge

Jens Uwe Bunge (born September 24, 1963 in Brilon ) is a German modern jazz musician ( harmonica ) and pastor.

Life

Bunge is self-taught ; first he played folk music on the diatonic harmonica and guitar as a child , then learned the trumpet , and at the age of eighteen, under the impression of Toots Thielemans, switched to the chromatic harmonica. During his theology studies at the University of Heidelberg , he completed a jazz training with Werner Pöhlert . As early as 1986 he appeared with Peter Herbolzheimer , Thilo Berg and with the Federal Jazz Orchestra . Since 1989 he has played with Wolf Mayer , who was also a member of the sextet he founded in 1994. Bunge also performs solo and with a trio; he also works with the guitarist Uli Wagner. So far he has recorded six albums under his own name. He is also involved in recordings by Ralf Gauck , Peter Lehel , Anke Helfrich and Chantal . He has also appeared with Barbara Dennerlein , Art Farmer , and Bill Ramsey .

He gave workshops at the World Harmonica Festival . Alternately with Jamey Aebersold , he oversees the jazz column of the international trade magazine The Harmonica Educator .

Bunge's main job is an ordained Protestant pastor at a vocational school in Ludwigshafen am Rhein .
