Ralf Gauck (2008)

Ralf Gauck (born May 8, 1965 in Worms ) is a German guitarist and bassist .

biography

Gauck started playing guitar at the age of 14 . In 1987 he studied jazz guitar for two years at the Hilversum Conservatory in the Netherlands and in 1989 with Randall Dollahon.

In the 1990s he ran a private music school in his hometown of Worms. During this time he switched from jazz guitar to electric bass . In 1993 he released his first solo CD "Unn Wie!" On Poni Records. This was followed by recordings with Peter Ratzenbeck and Chris Jones in the Pauler Studios for Stockfisch Records. From 2002 to 2006 he was a permanent member of the instrumental ensemble Chantal . As the bass player for the Chantal ensemble, he produced a CD of Beatles songs as reference recordings for the Bose Corporation , including at the legendary Abbey Road Studios in London. In 2003 Chantal was voted "Group of the Year" by SWR and played in the Cavern Club in Liverpool that same year .

From 2005 Ralf Gauck concentrated on his solo career and released the CD "Zauberwasser" on Zounds. The specialist press described him in reviews as a "bass miracle" ( Folker! ). In the run-up to the CD production “Fields of Gold” (2006) with compositions by Sting and The Police , the record label EMI refused him recording and performance rights. Ultimately, the clearance was arranged personally by Sting. The CD was produced in the Rainbow Studios by Jan Erik Kongshaug in Oslo . The weekly newspaper Die Zeit included this CD in the 2007 annual best list. The Höfner company built him a special fretless bass in 2007.

The German Pop Foundation and the German Rock Musicians' Association awarded Ralf Gauck the German Rock and Pop Prize in 2007, 2008 and 2010 in the categories “Best Bassist” and “Best Instrumental Soloist” . The company Franz Bassguitars released the Ralf Gauck Signature Model in January 2014, an electric bass that is built with hollow bodies and produces a very acoustic sound.

He played with Michael Manring , Sándor Szabó , Claus Boesser-Ferrari , Denny Seiwell ( Wings ), Tony Sheridan , Peter Ratzenbeck, Chris Jones, Kosho ( Sons of Mannheim ) and Herman's Hermits .
