The Cavern Club , opened on January 16, 1957, was a legendary rock 'n' roll club in Liverpool . Brian Epstein and the Beatles met here at 10 Mathew Street in 1961 .

Alan Sytner founded the club after seeing Jazzkeller in Paris . The Cavern was modeled on the Parisian Le Caveau de la Huchette . Initially a jazz club, the Cavern soon became home to the skiffle bands. In 1959, Sytner sold the club to Ray McFall when he moved to London .

In the early 1960s , blues bands and beat groups performed in the Cavern. The first Beat Night took place on May 25, 1960, with Rory Storm & the Hurricanes , with Ringo Starr on drums. Cilla Black worked on the cloakroom.

On February 9, 1961, the Beatles had their first appearance at the Cavern Club at noon after they had returned from Hamburg . On March 21st they premiered in the evening. Between 1961 and 1963, the Beatles performed 292 times in the Cavern. In the following years, many well-known bands and artists gave concerts in the club, including The Rolling Stones , The Kinks , The Who , the Yardbirds , Elton John and John Lee Hooker .

In March 1973, however, the Cavern Club was closed. When the Merseyrail was built, the building was eventually demolished.

Joe Davey rebuilt the club, which opened its doors in April 1984. Some of the stones from the original Cavern Club were used in the new club, which should look as similar as possible to the original.

On December 4th, 1999 Paul McCartney presented his album Run Devil Run in the new Cavern Club .
