Le Caveau de la Huchette
Le Caveau de la Huchette is a jazz club in the Latin Quarter in Paris located on Rue de la Huchette. 5 Founded in 1946, it is considered the oldest jazz cellar in Europe.
history
The basement of the building has served as a meeting place for the Rosicrucians since 1551 ; In 1772 a Masonic lodge was established there . Secret trials were carried out there during the French Revolution .
After the end of the Second World War, a club was built in the basement of the building, in which numerous well-known American and European jazz musicians performed, such as Lionel Hampton , Count Basie , Art Blakey , Memphis Slim , Bill Coleman , Sweets Edison , Rhoda Scott , Maxim Saury , Claude Luter , Jean-Christian Michel , Georges Arvanitas , Claude Bolling , Wild Bill Davis , Marc Laferrière or Boris Vian . A few feature films were also made in the cellar. Since 1970 Le Caveau de la Huchette has belonged to jazz musician Dany Doriz .
