Barry Martyn

Barry Martyn (* as Barry Martyn Godfrey, February 23, 1941 in London ) is a British jazz drummer and producer of New Orleans jazz .

Barry Martyn began playing drums in 1955 and a year later he led his first band with first recordings in 1959. He first visited New Orleans in 1961 , learned from Cie Frazier and founded Mono Records . Martyn toured Europe with many New Orleans musicians (such as George Lewis , Albert Nicholas , Louis Nelson , Captain John Handy ). In 1972 he moved to Los Angeles and founded Legends of Jazz . With the New Orleans veterans gathered here, he toured the world and produced recordings. In 1984 he was back in New Orleans and reissued the Circle Records back catalog.

In 1976 he played with Barney Bigard . He took on many times as a leader.
