Les Haricots Rouges
Les Haricots Rouges (Eng. The Red Beans ) is a French band for New Orleans Jazz ; also chansons and Creole music (e.g. from Guadeloupe ) are in the repertoire.
history
The combo was formed in 1963 as a student band; Some of the founders are still active today with the Haricots Rouges , which have also been on tours abroad. One of the founders, Gilbert Leroux , left the band in 1967, the other founder, Pierre Jean (piano and trumpet) is now a member again.
In their home country they became a “cult band” who provided jazz with humorous-satirical gags and achieved great popularity in the late 1960s with performances at the “Olympia” in Paris, where they opened the concerts of the Beatles , the Rolling Stones , and Jacques Brel u. v. a. During the 1970s they also played club concerts with American guests at Le Caveau de la Huchette .
Probably the most remarkable appearance of the group was as a break filler at the Grand Prix Eurovision de la Chanson in 1966 in Luxembourg . Here they performed two Dixieland pieces including a washboard solo. In Germany they were often guests on television, e. B. at the Musikantenstadl (Eurovision) and played in front of up to 8000 spectators at the Dixieland Festival Dresden .
The members are today (as of February 2017):
- Jacques Montebruno - clarinet ;
- Michel Senamaud - drums ;
- Norbert Congrega - Banjo (band leader);
- Alain Huguet - double bass ;
