Gilbert Leroux
Gilbert Leroux (born April 4, 1941 in Fontainebleau ) is a French drummer and band leader of hot jazz .
Live and act
Leroux, great-grandson of Jules Massenet , played in Paris jazz clubs as a teenager . In 1963 he was one of the founders of Les Haricots Rouges and specialized in the washboard . In 1967 he left the band. In 1970 he went on tour with Raymond Fonsèque and founded a quartet with Daniel Barda , which later separated from him as Paris Washboard . In 1990 he brought Phillipe de Preissac and Michel Bonnet to his Gilbert Leroux Washboard Group , with whom he performed at numerous festivals.
Leroux also played with Albert Nicholas , Milt Buckner , Bill Coleman , Wallace Davenport , Fabrice Eulry, Stéphane Grappelli , Daniel Huck , Marc Laferrière , Alain Marquet , Mezz Mezzrow , François Rilhac , Maxim Saury and Benny Waters .
In 1986 he was awarded the Prix Sidney Bechet of the Académie du Jazz .
