Jean-Pierre Morel

Jean-Pierre Morel , also Charquet or Sharkey Morel (born March 27, 1943 in Grenoble ) is a French jazz musician ( cornet , also vocals , kazoo , alto horn ) and band leader of traditional jazz .

Live and act

Morel played in the mid-1960s in Paris with the Famous Melody Boys , with whom the first recordings were made ( 3rd Jazz Band Ball ) and was co-founder and leader of the formation Charquet and Co. (initially Sharkey & Co. ), u. a. with Alain Marquet and Daniel Huck , with whom he worked in the 70s a. a. performed at the Parisian Club Caveau de la Montagne and at the International Traditional Jazz Festival Breda in 1976. He also played from 1968 with Les Haricots Rouges .

In the 1990s he founded Le Petit Jazzband de Mr. Morel , in the following two decades he was a member of the formation Les Rois du Fox-Trot , which appeared in the Parisian eatery Petit Journal St. Michel and a series of albums such as Tribute to Elmer Schoebel , Crazy 'Bout Red-Head Mamas and We're Forever Blowing Bubbles recorded for the hot jazz label Stomp Off . The band's repertoire consisted of early jazz classics from Fletcher Henderson , Clarence Williams to Duke Ellington . In the field of jazz he was involved in 92 recording sessions between 1966 and 2013.

Prizes and awards

Morel received the Sidney Bechet Prize in 1970 .
