Dany Doriz

Dany Doriz (born September 6, 1941 in Boissy-Saint-Léger ) is a French musician of mainstream jazz ( vibraphone , also saxophone and piano ).

Career

Doriz first received classical piano lessons and then switched to the saxophone. At the age of 16 he got to know the vibraphone, which he then concentrated on. As early as 1960 he was leading a big band alongside his quintet ; the first recordings were made. Encouraged by Stéphane Grappelli and Memphis Slim , he went on tour across Europe.

Since he became the owner and musical director of the Parisian jazz cellar Caveau de la Huchette in 1970 , he has performed there with musicians such as Wild Bill Davis , Ray Bryant , Cat Anderson , Milt Buckner , Hal Singer , Illinois Jacquet , Al Gray , Harry Sweets Edison , Benny Bailey , Arnett Cobb , Clark Terry , Red Holloway , Buster Cooper , Butch Miles or Eddie Jones . In 1975 Doriz played during the European tour in Lionel Hampton's band (after which an album was created for Barclay Records ). In 1981 he performed with the Flashback Quartet at the North Sea Jazz Festival . He played with his big band at the 1984 Bratislava Jazz Days . He also recorded with Bill Coleman , Marcel Azzola , Patrick Saussois, and Patricia Bonner.
