Patrick Saussois

Patrick Saussois (* 24. June 1954 in Paris ; † 21st September 2012 ) was a guitarist of Swing Manouche and music producer .

Live and act

Saussois, whose father plays guitar as an amateur, taught himself the guitar as a self-taught ; while he was left-handed , he played a right -handed instrument. Musically, he was initially particularly influenced by Django Reinhardt's records . But he also had the opportunity to see Jacques Montagne , Maurice Ferret and Elek Bacsik . Since 1977 he has pursued a career as a professional musician. For many years he worked with Didier Roussin from 1980 , with whom he also recorded his first album Si tu savais . He founded his own label, Djaz Records , in 1988, for which he also produced other musicians. In 1993 he played with Tchavolo Schmitt , Dorado Schmitt and Gino Reinhardt as Gypsy Reunion before founding the Ensemble Alma Sinti in 1996, which included Jean-Yves Dubanton, Jean-Claude Bénéteau, Jean-Claude Laudat, Stan Laferrière and Jean Cortès . He also organized the annual nuit du jazz manouche in Montrouge .

In March 2009 he received the Prix ​​Frank Hagège associated with the Django d'Or .

Since 2009 he has not been able to perform as a musician for health reasons (after a stroke and locked-in syndrome ). He died on September 21, 2012 at the age of 58.
