Daniel Givone (* around 1968) is a French guitarist of gypsy jazz .

Live and act

Givone comes from a family of musicians; Father and grandfather are accordionists; his brother worked as a drummer for Jean-Jacques Goldman and Patricia Kaas . At the age of twelve he was already performing in public and as a guitarist accompanied his father at dance events in the Caen region . At the age of 14 he studied at the local conservatory in the class of Jacques Godin. At the age of 18 he left the conservatory to work as a musician in various genres, playing the guitar both electrically and acoustically.

After moving to Paris to teach guitar, bass and harmony for two years, he returned to Caen to play swing and gypsy jazz. In 1986 a joint chanson album was created with Charles Erick Labadille. In 1994 he moved to Nantes, where a meeting with May Bittel in 1996 led to the founding of the Trio Givone . The ensemble consisted of his wife Christine Givone on rhythm guitar and Jean-Claude Givone, his brother, on bass. With the Trio Givone he has recorded several albums since 1998 and gave his first international concerts in Japan, Switzerland, Iceland, Germany and Nepal. Since 2006 he has led his own quartet (with guitarist Anthony Muccio, Simon Mary on bass and Mihaïl Trestian on cimbalom ), but also performs as a soloist with other ensembles.

Since 2000 he has written articles on gypsy jazz for Guitar Part magazine ; He also wrote the textbooks La Guitare Manouche (published in 2005 by Editions JJ Rébillard) and Débutant Guitare Manouche (published by the same publisher in 2010).
