Lucas Heidepriem (born November 20, 1960 in Freiburg im Breisgau ) is a German jazz musician ( piano , initially trombone ).

Live and act

Heidepriem grew up in a musical family: his father Waldi Heidepriem was a modern jazz pianist from southern Germany; the bassist Thomas Heidepriem is his older brother. Lucas Heidepriem chose the trombone as his instrument at the age of twelve . From 1974 to 1978 he received lessons from Erich Fröhlich (Musikhochschule Freiburg) in the field of classical music. From 1981 to 1987 he studied jazz trombone with Albert Mangelsdorff , was a member of various modern jazz bands and worked in various productions at the municipal theater in Freiburg / Br. With. In 1989 he founded his own quartet with Uli Möck (piano), Karoline Höfler (bass) and Martin Hug (drums).

A lip tissue disease ( leukoplakia ) put an abrupt end to his career as a jazz trombonist in 1993. Heidepriem initially withdrew from the jazz scene and took up classical piano studies. After studying with Erik Siefert ( Freiburg University of Music ) for more than ten years , he continued his work as a jazz musician as a pianist and founded the Lucas Heidepriem Trio in 2006 with Johannes Schaedlich (bass) and Dirik Schilgen (drums) , with whom he has worked since then . On his second trio production, published in 2015, Peter Erskine took over the seat on the drums; Bass was played again by Johannes Schädlich.

Lucas Heidepriem is the recipient of the German Phono Academy 's young talent award in 1982 and the Baden-Württemberg Jazz Prize in 1991.
