Damo Suzuki (born January 16, 1950 ) is a Cologne singer of Japanese descent. He was the singer of the group Can from 1970 to 1973 and has been busy with his solo career since 1983, mainly with his own projects, currently the Damo Suzuki's Network . His trademark is improvised singing to psychedelic music.

Life

Damo Suzuki was born and raised in Kanagawa Prefecture , Japan . He was discovered as a street musician by Can members Holger Czukay and Jaki Liebezeit in Munich and immediately engaged. He made his first appearance with the band on the same evening. He stayed with Can for four years and recorded the album Tago Mago , which is considered the best of the group. In 1974 he disappeared from the scene.

In 1983 he reappeared in public and played in various bands such as Dunkelziffer or Phantom Band around Jaki Liebezeit before he founded the Damo Suzuki Band . From 1990 the band was called Damo Suzuki & Friends and finally Damo Suzuki's Network . In 1997 he founded his own label, Damo's Network , under which he released a number of albums that only contain live material. In 2004 he went on a small tour of Germany as a singer for the Hamburg band Passierzettel .

Since 1997 he has been on tour with various bands and performers and earns his living as a musician. As in the past, his music is based on improvisation. He travels to various countries and plays with musicians there - the so-called "Sound Carriers".
