Chris Biscoe (born February 5, 1947 in Pensford , Somerset ) is an English alto clarinetist , saxophonist and flutist of modern jazz .
Biscoe is self-taught and initially played the alto saxophone; he initially studied English and Education between 1965 and 1968 and played with Ben Sidran while studying at the University of Sussex ; then he moved to London . From 1970 to 1973 he was a member of the National Youth Jazz Orchestra in London; then he worked as a professional musician. Since 1979 he worked with Mike Westbrook and took part in several of his albums; He also founded his first quartet in 1979. Between 1983 and 1993 he was part of Chris McGregor 's Brotherhood of Breath . He also worked a. a. with George Russell , Ken Hyder , Hermeto Pascoal , Dewey Redman , Andy Sheppard , Harry Beckett , Louis Moholo as well as Kenny Wheeler and the New York Composers Orchestra . 1984 worked on Mike Westbrook's Ellington Homage On Duke's Birthday .
In 1988 he founded the group Full Monte with Brian Godding , Marcio Mattos and Tony Marsh . The group worked u. a. with trumpeters Dick Pearce , Henry Lowther and Harry Beckett and recorded the album Dialoges in 1998 with the trombone trio The Blowpipes . In the early 1990s he was a member of the Dedication Orchestra .
From 1997 to 2000 Biscoe played in the Orchester National de Jazz under Didier Levallet , and since 1999 in the Harry Beckett Band . He performed in the sextet Mingus Moves a . a. with Henry Lowther and Veryan Weston and played saxophone in the bands of Ben Davis , Liam Noble and Loz Speyer .
In 2003 he took up Speyer's group Inner Space . The following year he worked with Kate Westbrook , the Hermeto Pascoal Orchestra , Graham Collier , Keith Tippett and Tim Richards . He toured Austria and Switzerland with the Pierre Favre European Chamber Ensemble . In 2007 he appeared in a quintet with Tony Kofi , John Horler , Dave Green and Dave Berry at the Appleby Festival . In 2020 he released the two albums CWobbly Rail 5 ” and Unforseen .
