Veryan Weston
Veryan Weston (born September 3, 1950 in Uckfield , Sussex ) is a British pianist of creative jazz and European improvisation music .
Live and act
Veryan Weston came to London from his native Cornwall in 1972 and worked as a freelance jazz pianist and improviser at the Little Theater Club . With the support of the Digswell Arts Trust in Hertfordshire , he wrote a book on piano improvisation in 1975 with financial support from the Arts Council of Great Britain . During this time he worked with the formation Stinky Winkles , for which he also composed. With the group he was elected Young Musician of 1979 by the Greater London Arts Association in 1979 and won three prizes in France, Spain and Poland. In the following years he also worked with video art artists, had an exhibition and a solo performance in London's Victoria & Albert Museum in 1979, and in 1980 he appeared at the Hammersmith Jazz Festival with the artist Stephen Cochrane . During this time he also composed and played music for films, such as with Lol Coxhill for Derek Jarman's " Caravaggio " (1985). His increasing interest in multimedia projects resulted in attending performance art courses at the Middlesex Polytechnic School; In 1990 he earned a Masters Degree in Music Composition from Goldsmith's College, University of London. He then briefly worked as a lecturer at Bretton Hall and Middlesex University .
During the 1980s and early 1990s he worked mainly with Eddie Prévost in his quartet, as well as with Trevor Watts , in duet formations with Lol Coxhill, with Jon Rose , Caroline Kraabel and with Phil Minton . He also played in a duo with trombonist Günter Heinz and in Minton's ensemble projects, such as the riverun project of the Phil Minton Quartet with John Butcher and Roger Turner , and in the London Improvisers Orchestra . He played at numerous important festivals in Europe, Canada and India.
