Edwin "Eddie" Prévost (born June 22, 1942 in Hitchin , England ) is a British drummer of the free jazz / improvisation scene and theorist of new improvisation music .

As an adolescent, Prévost played traditional jazz ; later he worked in hardbop- oriented bands. In 1965 he was the founder of the important improvisation ensemble AMM together with Lou Gare and Keith Rowe , and to this day he forms the constant core of the group. Since the early 1970s, Prévost has also played in free jazz bands, including a. with Larry Stabbins , Veryan Weston and Marcio Mattos . Together with Parker, Rowe and Barry Guy he formed the Supersession project . Prévost is also a member of Experimental Audio Research . As a drummer, Prévost is influenced by Max Roach and Ed Blackwell . He draws musical inspiration from the works of Sun Ra , David Tudor and Japanese Gagaku .
