Oli Hayhurst

Oli Hayhurst (* around 1975) is a British jazz musician ( double bass ).

Hayhurst, who grew up in Cambridge , first played clarinet , then guitar and bass guitar in local bands. After a failed attempt to study physics , he took lessons on the double bass; In 1995 he moved to London to study at the Royal Academy of Music . During his studies he worked with Cara Dillon and Sam Lakeman.

Since graduating in 2000, he has worked in a variety of musical fields. Between 2000 and 2002 he was part of Gilad Atzmon's Orient House Ensemble ; He toured Europe with this formation and was involved in their first two records for Enja . Between 2002 and 2009 he was a member of Tim Whitehead's quartet . He also accompanied Polly Paulusma in Europe in 2004 (as opening act for Bob Dylan ). In 2006 and 2007 he belonged to the band Parallelogram , a cooperation of jazz and folk musicians (with Lau, Pete Wareham and Brian Finnegan). Since 2006 he has been a member of Zoe Rahman's trio ; in the same year he was involved in her album Melting Pot , which was awarded at the Parliamentary Jazz Awards 2006 for best album. In 2007 Reem Kelani traveled to Syria, where he played with local musicians in Damascus and Aleppo. Since 2008 he has been playing all over Europe, North Africa and Brazil as part of Ray Gelato's Giants and has made regular guest appearances with this band at Ronnie Scott's Jazz Club and the Blue Note in Milan . In 2009 he was at Sam Crockatts album Howeird involved (it was at the Parliamentary Jazz Awards proved to be the best album of the year). In 2011 he went into the studio with Julian Siegel for the album Urban Theme Park ; he was on a concert tour in Germany with his quartet.

He also worked with Vanessa-Mae , Bill McHenry , John Parricelli , Maria Ewing , Jim Mullen , Patrizio Buanne , Melanie C , Martin Speake , Theo Travis , Bobby Wellins , Liam Noble , Mark Lockheart , Anita Wardell , Polly Gibbons, Henry Lowther , Joe Townsend and Martin Green .

Hayhurst has been teaching double bass at the Purcell School in London since 2003 . He wrote the Easy Bass Jazz with Backing Tracks practice aid .
