Georgia Mancio

Georgia Mancio (born January 6, 1972 ) is a British jazz singer and songwriter .

Life

Mancio became a professional musician in 2000. She performed at the 2003 London Jazz Festival with Bobby McFerrin . In the same year she presented her debut album, Peaceful Place , to which her pianist Tim Lapthorn contributed several compositions. In 2006 she toured Belgium with Sheila Jordan and David Linx . Since 2008 she has been the singer of the Frank Griffith Septet. In the same year her album Trapeze was released , which received good press coverage. 2010 followed her album Silhouette with the flautist Gareth Lockrane (and in some pieces Kate Williams and Ian Shaw ).

She has sung with Ian Shaw, Norma Winstone and Anita Wardell ( The True Jazz Voice , Poole ) and worked with musicians such as Jason Rebello , Gwilym Simcock , Jim Mullen , Laurence Cottle and Bobby Wellins . At Ronnie Scott's Jazz Club she designed the opening act for stars like Monty Alexander , Cedar Walton , Milton Nascimento , Joey DeFrancesco , Ramsey Lewis , Jon Hendricks and Dave Holland . BBC Radio 3 recorded two concerts of her with Darius Brubeck (2011) and with John Parricelli (2013). With Alan Broadbent she released the album Songbook in 2017 .

In 2010 Mancio started her own international festival of jazz singing, ReVoice, at London's Pizza Express Jazz Club, where she performs regularly . There she presented singers such as Gregory Porter , Karin Krog , David Linx, Maria Pia De Vito , Kevin Mahogany , Tina May , Diana Torto , Barbara Raimondi, Becca Stevens and Carmen Souza, but also Tuck & Patti , Raul Midón and Jhelisa Anderson.

Prizes and awards

In 2005 she won first prize at the International Young Jazz Singers' Competition in Brussels. Kate Williams' album Finding Home with her won one of the Parliamentary Jazz Awards for best jazz album of the year in 2020 .
