Jason Rebello (born March 29, 1969 in London ) is a British pianist who has emerged primarily in the field of fusion and jazz music. He became known to a wider audience when Sting brought him into his band.

Live and act

Rebello learned the piano from the age of nine. At the age of 16 he was a member of the Four on Four Quartet . He then studied piano and graduated from the Guildhall School of Music . In 1988 he accompanied Alan Skidmore on his album A Tribute to Trane ; in the next few years he also appeared with Jean Toussaint , Steve Williamson , Cleveland Watkiss and Tommy Smith . His debut album A Clearer View was produced by Wayne Shorter , with whom he toured the US and Japan.

He has also worked with Art Blakey , Tim Garlands Lammas , Courtney Pine , Gary Burton , Branford Marsalis , Chaka Khan , Des'ree , Bud Shank , Mica Paris , Gerard Presencer and Carleen Anderson . Between 1998 and 2003 he was the successor of Kenny Kirkland in Sting's band and was involved in his albums Brand New Day , All This Time and Sacred Love . He can also be heard on recordings by Guy Barker , Julian Joseph , Tommy Smith, Pee Wee Ellis ( The Spirit of Christmas ) and Jean Toussaint.

Since 2006 he has also toured with Jeff Beck ; he also recorded his album Emotion & Commotion (2010). He also wrote songs for Nerina Pallot .

Prizes and awards

Rebello received the Pat Smythe Award . The Wire magazine named him the Most Promising Newcomer in 1988. He was also awarded the Perrier British Jazz Award .
