Marianne Jean-Baptiste (born April 26, 1967 in London , England , United Kingdom ; as Marianne Raigipcien Jean-Baptiste ) is a British actress , screenwriter and composer . She was the first black British actress who for one Oscar (as best supporting actress in Mike Leigh's Secrets & Lies was nominated).

biography

She completed her acting training at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art in London and then performed at the Royal National Theater, among others . She also received roles in Hanif Kureishi's film London kills me and the award-winning crime series Fitz, For All Cases .

She expressed her passion for music through numerous appearances. So she also recorded an album with blues songs. They also composed the music for the film career Girls of Mike Leigh , who, following in his film Secrets & Lies occupied. He was nominated for five Academy Awards (including Best Picture ) and made her engagement in the USA possible . So she performed alongside Sandra Bullock , Robert Redford , Brad Pitt and Jennifer Lopez .

She is married to the ballet dancer Evan Williams. They have two daughters together.
