Ian Shaw (singer)

Ian Shaw (born June 2, 1962 in St Asaph , Wales ) is a Welsh jazz singer , pianist , actor and music producer .

Live and act

Ian Shaw studied in London, where he had worked since the late 1980s; initially he appeared in musicals as a comedian. He met Carol Grimes and Julie and Keith Tippett . He recorded several times with the singer Claire Martin and had appearances with her on the BBC Radio 2 show Big Band Special , of which he was the director. He also produced a BBC show with Charlie Crocker . In 1994 Shaw was a guest soloist in Gail Thompson's Big Band and in 1995 in Geoff Gascoyne's band . In 1995/96 his albums Ghostsongs and The Echo of a Song were created . a. saxophonists Iain Ballamy and Mornington Lockett took part. In 1998, Shaw recorded In a New York Minute with Cedar Walton and Ballamy , with standards such as " Last Night When We Were Young ". 2003 followed the album A World Still Turning , on which the singer Mark Murphy had a guest appearance; Eric Alexander , Paul Bollenback , Billy Childs , Peter Washington and Mark Fletcher played in the backing band .

Shaw also appeared in Jerry Springer: The Opera in 2002 ; In 2005 he had a film role in the film Pierrepoint . In 2004 and 2007, Shaw won the "Best Jazz Singer" award at the BBC Jazz Awards .

Ian Shaw should not be confused with the British Egyptologist of the same name (* 1961).
