Tina May

Tina May (born March 30, 1961 in Gloucester ) is a British jazz singer .

Life

Tina May grew up in Frampton-on-Severn , where she attended Stroud High Grammar School . She was married to drummer Clark Tracey , who also appeared on some of her albums that she recorded for 33 Records . Her accompanying musicians included u. a. Tony Coe , Alec Dankworth , Mick Hutton , Karen Sharp and Nikki Iles . She also worked as a guest vocalist in 1994 with Michael Hashim ( Transatlantic Airs ) and in 2000 for the album Ellington's Sacred Music with the Stan Tracey Jazz Orchestra and the Durham Cathedral Choir .

The authors Richard Cook and Brian Morton call Tina May one of the most important British jazz singers; they particularly highlight their 2004 album More than You Know with Coe and Iles .
