Cara Dillon (born July 21, 1975 in Dungiven , County Derry , Northern Ireland ) is a Northern Irish folk singer.
biography
Cara Dillon grew up in the town of Dungiven in County Derry in Northern Ireland and won the All Ireland Traditional Singing Trophy at the age of 14 . A year later she was a permanent member of the band Oige . In 1995 she took over from Kate Rusby in the English folk rock band Equation . There she met Sam Lakeman , with whom she has been making traditional Irish folk music since then and whom she married in 2003.
2001 the first joint album Cara Dillon was released by the label Rough Trade Records . Shortly thereafter, in 2002, she won two major music awards, the Horizon Award for Best Newcomer and the Award for Best Traditional Track for the song Black is the Color at the BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards . She also made numerous appearances in Europe, Australia, New Zealand and Singapore . She also sang with other bands, such as the song Man in the rain on the album Tubular Bells III of Mike Oldfield , and supported the band Ghost Country . In 2003 her second solo album Sweet Liberty was released and on February 27, 2006 the album After the Morning was released. The Hill of Thieves was released in 2009 .
Cara Dillon's singing style is characterized by her clear voice, with which she interprets the traditional and often melancholy Irish pieces. She writes many of the lyrics and melodies herself. She is supported not only by Sam Lakeman, but also by his brother Seth, her sister Marry Dillon and various other musicians.
