Dungiven ( Irish : Dún Geimhin ) is a town in the historic county of Londonderry in Northern Ireland near the Glenshane Mountain Pass. It is on the A6, the main route between Derry City and Belfast , and at the southern end of the A68, which connects Dungiven with Limavady . In the 2001 Census , the population of Dungiven was determined to be 2993 people. 96.8% of them were Catholic and 3.1% Protestant. Dungiven is part of the Causeway Coast and Glens District .

The most important historical sights are the remains of an Augustinian abbey from the 11th century and the tomb of the O'Cahan clan . Banagher Old Church is the ruin of an early 12th century nave.

The Aughlish stone circles and rows of stones lie southwest of Dungiven. The Wedge tomb of Cloghnagalla (also Cloghagalla) is located in Boviel, east of Dungiven. The menhir about two meters high stands on a hill in the village,
