Kevin Lynch (hunger striker)

Kevin Lynch (born May 25, 1956 near Dungiven , County Derry , † August 1, 1981 in Lisburn ) was a Northern Irish member of the INLA and hunger striker .

Life

Lynch grew up as the youngest of eight children near Dungiven in County Derry, Northern Ireland.

In 1976 Kevin Lynch joined the INLA and was arrested a few months later in the course of an attack on units of the RUC . He was sentenced to ten years ' imprisonment in December 1977 for his activities in the INLA , whereupon he immediately joined the Blanket protest while incarcerated in Maze Prison .

On May 22, 1981, Kevin Lynch joined the 1981 hunger strike surrounding Bobby Sands , as a result of which he died after 71 days.

The Dungiven Hurling Club is named after Lynch .
