Juliet Kelly (born May 6, 1970 in London ) is a British jazz musician ( vocals , composition ).

Live and act

Kelly grew up as a child in an environment where only religious music was allowed. She received her first piano lessons at the age of 13. After completing school, she began studying economics and also attended a bass guitar course. By chance she met the singer Anita Wardell , who convinced her to turn to jazz singing . She completed a suitable postgraduate course at London's Guildhall School of Music and Drama , where she met musicians such as Gary Crosby , John Etheridge and Orphy Robinson . She was first in London, soon afterwards successful as a singer throughout Great Britain, also toured in Europe and performed in Israel and Australia .

Kelly worked with Tony Kofi , Gareth Williams and Jim Mullen and performed at the London Jazz Festival in 2003 and 2004 . On her debut album Aphrodite's Child (2003) she also introduced herself as a songwriter and arranger ; In 2005 there were first appearances in the USA . Three more albums under his own name followed. She can also be heard on albums by Courtney Pine and Dimitri Vassilakis.

Kelly, whose influences include Shirley Horn and Ella Fitzgerald , but also Nina Simone , has , according to Allmusic , an unmistakable, rich and well- phrasing voice, combined with an admirable stage presence. She also worked as a reporter for Jazz on 3 ( BBC Radio 3 ) and hosted her own programs for BBC Radio Kent and UKJazzRadio.com .
