John Etheridge

John Michael Glyn Etheridge (born January 12, 1948 in Lambeth , London ) is a British jazz guitarist who is counted on the Canterbury scene .

Live and act

Etheridge learned the guitar as a self-taught at the age of 13 . After studying art history at the University of Essex , he played in various jazz rock bands from 1971 . Between 1975 and 1978 he was a member of Soft Machine . He was also on tour with Diz Disley and Stéphane Grappelli until 1981 . At the same time he founds his Second Vision (with Ric Sanders and Fred T. Baker ). After appearances in Australia and the United States (also in a duo with bassist Brian Torff ) he worked in the John Etheridge Trio , but also with Gary Boyle . Between 1989 and 1993 he was with Danny Thompson 's Whatever .

He was also on tour with Dick Heckstall-Smith , Biréli Lagrène , Nigel Kennedy and Andy Summers . He also played in the Elton Dean / John Etheridge Quartet and in WEB ( John Williams , Etheridge, Bebey). In 1999, Etheridge founded the Frank Zappa tribute band Zappatistas , who released a live CD and also performed at the German Zappanale Festival in 2006 .

In 2005, Etheridge toured with three other ex-members of Soft Machine - Hugh Hopper , Elton Dean and John Marshall as Soft Machine Legacy and also produced three albums. Etheridge also teaches.
