John Stanley Marshall (born August 28, 1941 in London ), better known as John Marshall , is an English modern jazz drummer who has worked in numerous important groups on the English scene.

Life

Marshall had after studying psychology at the University of Reading and teaching a. a. at Philly Joe Jones 1964 his first engagement with the Blues Incorporated by Alexis Korner . He then worked for Graham Collier (1965 to 1970), Michael Garrett , Michael Gibbs and Mike Westbrook . He was a founding member of the jazz rock band Nucleus , where he played from 1969 to 1971, and has worked with a variety of jazz and rock musicians , including Arthur Brown , Georgie Fame , Joe Harriott , Chris Spedding and Centipede . In the 1970s he worked with Jack Bruce , Soft Machine and Hugh Hopper , the Spontaneous Music Orchestra , John Surman , Charlie Mariano , Arild Andersen , Volker Kriegel and Eberhard Webers Colors (1977 to 1981). He later worked with Gil Evans , Uli Beckerhoff , Wolfgang Mirbach and the aforementioned musicians.

Since 1999, he has worked with other former Soft Machine members on several soft machine related projects such as SoftWhere , SoftWorks and Soft Machine Legacy . He also worked as a companion for singers such as Sarah Vaughan , Leon Thomas , Elaine Delmar and Karin Krog .
