Centipede (band)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Centipede was a progressive rock - big band with more than 50 members appointed by the British composer and pianist Keith Tippett was organized and conducted. The ensemble, founded in November 1970, brought together many young British jazz and rock musicians, including from Soft Machine , King Crimson , Nucleus and Blossom Toes, and members of the classic London School of Music .

The band performed Tippett's large-format, cross-genre work Septober Energy in several concerts in Great Britain, France and the Netherlands , which was also released on the seminal double album Septober Energy in 1971. Already in the group sound the band clearly differs from everything else that was produced and published in the progressive rock trend of the time. In Tippett's opinion, it was "a band to be seen live". For economic reasons he had to break up the band in autumn 1971, which he revived in autumn 1975 for a short tour of France.
