Catherine Esther Beecher (born September 6, 1800 in East Hampton , Long Island , † May 12, 1878 ) was an American writer.

Life

Beecher was the daughter of the preacher Lyman Beecher . One of her brothers was the preacher Henry Ward Beecher and her sister was the writer Harriet Beecher Stowe .

At the age of 16 she helped to found a secondary school for girls in Hartford (Connecticut) and helped to lead it until 1832, trying to give the lessons a religious focus.

The writer Catherine Esther Beecher died on May 12, 1878 at the age of 78.
