Jason Christopher Yarde (born September 1, 1970 in Beckenham (Kent) ) is a British musician of creative jazz ( alto and soprano saxophone , piano , composition , arrangements ).

Live and act

Yarde, whose brother is the pianist James Yarde, received saxophone lessons at school. He first studied jazz piano with Brian Priestley at Goldsmiths College and continued from 1989 to 1993 his studies at Middlesex University with Veryan Weston and Alan Barnes and at William Paterson College with Joe Lovano . At the age of 16 he was a member of the Jazz Warriors . Then he belonged to the bands of Mervyn Africa , Louis Moholo (with whom he recorded several albums, most recently in 2017) and Courtney Pine . He then played with Afro Blok and Mano Ventura to direct Tomorrow's Warriors in 1993 . He then belonged to Quite Sane , the J-Life Quintet and Tim Richards ' Great Spirit and worked with Claude Deppa , Roberto Bellatalla , Nikki Yeoh and Bémbé Ségué. He has also performed with Manu Dibango , Hermeto Pascoal , Sam Rivers , McCoy Tyner , Andrew Hill and Hugh Masekela . As a guest musician on the alto and baritone saxophone , he was also involved in Mark Forster's Sowieso in 2016 .

Yarde wrote for his own projects like Acoutastic Bombastic or the Trio ! WAH! , but also music for dance theater. He arranged for the Kronos Quartet , Guy Barker and Hugh Masekela , among others .

Prizes and awards

In 2010 he was awarded the British Academy of Songwriters, Composers and Authors' Prize for Contemporary Jazz Composition .
