Roberto Bellatalla

Roberto Bellatalla (born October 25, 1954 ) is an Italian jazz bassist.

Live and act

Bellatalla first played in Italy with Guido Mazzon ( Ed ora parliamo di liberta , 1975), Gaetano Liguori and Mario Schiano ( Concerto della Statale , 1975). In 1976 he moved to Amsterdam, where he met Tristan Honsinger , Radu Malfatti and Sean Bergin played in a quartet, but also with Han Bennink of free improvisation music approached. In 1978 he played in the Laboratorio della Quercia with Evan Parker , Steve Lacy , Massimo Urbani , Roswell Rudd and Frederic Rzewski . Since 1983 he lived in London. There he worked with Ken Hyder , Dudu Pukwana , Julian Bahula and was a member of Louis Moholo's band Viva La Black , on whose first South Africa tour he took part in 1993. Since 1985 he has been a member of the group Dreamtime (initially with Jim Dvorak , Nick Evans , Gary Curson and Jim Lebaigue ), with whom he recorded several albums. In 1989 he took part in a tour of the Keith Tippett String Trio with Marcio Mattos . In 1990 he formed a trio with Steve Noble and Billy Jenkins .

In 1997 he worked as a member of Elton Dean's band Newsense on the album of the same name. With his own quartet (with Claude Deppa , Jason Yarde and Brian Abrahams ) he recorded the album Borrowed Time in 1998 . As a member of Steve Nobles The Shakedown Club (with Billy Jenkins), he toured the UK and performed at the Glasgow International Jazz Festival and the European Autumn Festival in Olbia. In 2003 he returned to Italy where he toured with Moholo and Pino Minafras Canto General . Currently he is mainly active as a musician in dance projects, but also performs in a duo with Biggi Vinkeloe and in a trio with Mike Cooper and Sandro Satta .
