Ken Hyder

Ken Hyder (born June 29, 1946 in Dundee , Scotland , United Kingdom ) is a British ethnic jazz musician ( drums , percussion , composer ).

Live and act

Hyder began playing drums as a teenager under the influence of Elvin Jones and Paul Motian . He discovered the potential of Scottish folk music for jazz. As early as the late 1960s he put together the group Talisker , which performed regularly at the Little Theater Club in London and was dedicated to the crossover of free jazz and Celtic music. He made several records with the band and toured across Europe. Later he became interested in the music of the Eskimos and in the larynx singing , as it is practiced in Tuva . In the Bardo State Orchestra , which also made recordings with monks from Tibet , Jim Dvorak , Marcio Mattos and he convincingly worked out the energetic similarities between free jazz and Tibetan music. He also recorded with Maggie Nicols , Sainkho Namtchylak , Tim Hodgkinson and Elton Dean .
