Giovanni Maier

Giovanni Maier (* 26. August 1965 in Staranzano ) is an Italian jazz - bassist and composer .

Live and act

Maier graduated from the Conservatorio G. Tartini in Trieste in 1988 . From 1987 he belonged to the Transition Jazz Group , with which he recorded several albums. Since the late 1980s he has worked in the Italian jazz and improvisation scene, as well as with American musicians such as Butch Morris , Roscoe Mitchell , Muhal Richard Abrams , Cecil Taylor , Anthony Braxton , Roswell Rudd , Tristan Honsinger , Tim Berne , Chris Speed , Benny Golson and European musicians like Ernst Reijseger , Willem Breuker , Wolter Wierbos , Richard Galliano and Yves Robert . He played in Enrico Rava's formation Electric Five and later projects, in Pino Minafra's Sud Ensemble , with Tiziano Tononi , Daniele Cavallanti and in the Umberto Petrin Trio, and occasionally in the Italian Unabile Orchestra . He also works with his own formations, such as the Mosaic Orchestra and numerous duo and trio projects, such as with Roberto Cecchetto , Michele Rabbia , Lauro Rossi , Tino Tracanna , Guido Mazzon , Claudio Lodati , Luca Calabrese , Sebi Tramontana , Roberto Bellatalla and im Triosonic with Stefano Battaglia and Michele Rabbia ( ECM album, 2005). Since 2009 he has been a lecturer at the Conservatorio G. Tartini in Trieste.
