Tino Tracanna

Tino Tracanna (* 1956 in Livorno ) is an Italian jazz - saxophonist ( soprano , alto and tenor saxophone ).

Live and act

Tracanna studied music in Bologna and did her PhD with a thesis on Steve Lacy . He became known when he played in the band of pianist Franco D'Andrea from 1981 to the early 1990s ( Flavors , 1992). From 1984 he also worked regularly with the trumpeter Paolo Fresu . At the end of the 1980s a first LP was released under his own name on the Splas (c) h label, Mr. Frankenstein Blues . In 1990 a second album was created with the title 292 , on which u. a. Paolo Fresu, the keyboardist Massimo Colombo and the bassist Francesco Sotgiu were involved.

In 1996 Tracanna took part in Alberto Nacci's wind project Passing ; in the same year he recorded the album Quartetto and was a member of Giorgio Gaslini 's big band ( Jelly's Back in Town ). In 1998 the big band production Gesualdo was born ; under the direction of Corrado Guarino five madrigals from the late 16th century were recorded by Gesualdo , supplemented by further titles in this style by Tracanna and Guarino. Maria Pia De Vito , who became known through projects with Colin Towns , took part as the singer .

He also worked with Tiziana Ghiglioni (1989–1990), with the Duke Ellington Repertory Orchestra and the Jazz Chromatic Orchestra . In 2000 he worked again with Paolo Fresu on his RCA album Melos . In the same year he played the album Punctus in a duo with drummer Pierre Favre .
