Biggi Vinkeloe

Biggi Vinkeloe (born March 8, 1956 ) is a Swedish musician ( alto saxophone , flute , composition ) of creative jazz and new improvisation music .

Live and act

Vinkeloe, who was born in Germany and had classical music lessons from the age of six, began to improvise with two bassists at school. She studied in France from 1974, where she lived until 1988 and initially performed with André Jaume , Jacques Veillé and Alain Rellay . Since then she has lived in Kungälv in Sweden and in the USA.

Internationally she made her first appearance as a member of a large-format ensemble that appeared in 1988 with Cecil Taylor in Berlin ( Legba Crossing , FMP ). She also played at Documenta IX in 1992 in its ensemble. In the same year she presented her own publication for the first time with Mr. Neffertiti . In the next few years she appeared in a trio with Barre Phillips and Peter Kowald and drummer Peeter Uuskyla , as well as with Lotte Anker , Vinny Golia , Damon Smith and Mary Oliver . She also worked with musicians from other genres such as Magnus Rosén and Anders Johansson from the power metal band Hammerfall .

In recent years she has worked in the Trio REV with Lisle Ellis and Donald Robinson (with Robinson also in a duo and in a trio with Chris Brown), with Chaos Butterfly and with Harris Eisenstadt and Steve Swell as The Diplomats .

Prizes and awards

Vinkeloe was Artist in Residence at the Headlands Center for the Arts in San Francisco. Her album Mbat was voted best jazz album in Finland in 1997.
